RECRUITMENT & DEADLINES

NEW YORK CITY, NY

 

THE SPRING 2021 ISSUE RECRUITMENT IS NOW OPEN. YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA. 

1. must be in grades 9-12 by September 2020

2. must live in the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan north of 110th st, or select neighborhoods in Brooklyn.

3. you need not be multilingual to write for us, but those who show aptitude in communicating in another language will have preference. 

We plan to select a staff of 30-35 writers and 10-15 artists. We aim to have a diverse staff ranging across grade level, boroughs, and languages. 

The theme will be sociopolitical commentary and we are accepting creative writing (personal essays, vignettes, short stories, poetry) as well as op-eds.

Given that we are launching our first issue in Boston, we will gauge our staff size based on the applicant pool. 

The theme will be community (interpret however you'd like) and we aim to focus on creative writing pieces (personal essays, spoken word, poetry, and short stories). Applications are selected on a rolling basis.
