Vote Him OUT

Upon hearing Donald J. Trump say, “Planned Parenthood has to stop with the abortions. A lot of people consider it an abortion clinic. I think those tapes that I saw over the last — the five tapes or the six tapes, I think they were outrageous. I think they were terrible, disgusting from any standpoint. And they have to stop” (Anwar & Stewart, 2019), it comes as no surprise that his beloved Supreme Court nominee to succeed the late Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Amy Coney Barrett, is a pro-life American. Unfortunately, if she is accepted into the Supreme Court, she will work to undo everything that her predecessor accomplished in terms of feminism and the fight for women’s rights.

During her time, Ginsberg was present for the passing of Roe V. Wade (1973), the court case in which the right for women to have an abortion was made legal on a national level. This case was a huge step in the right direction for women, as it finally began to give women the right to control their own bodies -- even though that right should have never been taken in the first place.

Amy Coney Barrett, the 48-year-old federal judge, is aligned with uniformly conservative views. Her appointment would upset the balance of the Supreme Court, resulting in an uneven mix of 6 conservative justices and 3 liberal justices. This brings reason to believe that Roe V. Wade and other cases involving abortion will be worked against in the coming years. But what pro-life individuals fail to realize is that people will still receive an abortion one way or another. The methods they use, however, can be very harmful to the pregnant woman. Do their lives not matter as much as the babies? Or is the only controversial view on abortion is if women can be trusted with their own health?

All people that are women, colored, LGBTQ+, etc. are in danger of losing protections that currently protect them from being treated even worse than they already are. Aside from being subjected to the heteronormative standards of society, all members of the LGBT+ community are threatened by Donald Trump. The Trump administration has already banned transgender people from the military, and they are working to undo every protection that Obama put in his place during his presidency (Fadulu & Flanagan, 2019).

That is why this election day, the most important thing you can do is vote. Vote Trump out.  Vote him out for all of us that can’t, and for all women, for all minorities, for all oppressed people in this godforsaken country. We cannot allow Trump to continue to offset the balance this country desperately, desperately needs at the moment.
