I am a 15-year-old sophomore at Boston Latin Academy. I became interested in this magazine because I feel that it would help bring everyone closer together as a community and help everyone's voices be heard. I am starting to learn Mandarin and taking an interest in computer science and other STEM activities. During my free time I also swim on a team and play tennis.

I am a 17-year-old East Somerville resident currently attending Somerville High. I decided to apply for editor because I have seen the impact of creating healing spaces within underserved communities, and I want our youth to have more access to artistic outlets. In addition to creative writing, I have a passion for all things performance-- musical and theatrical, specifically. I've been singing since elementary school and been involved in theatre throughout high school, however every time I look at Broadway, Hollywood, and even my local music scene I feel disappointed at our lack of diverse representation. I have experienced a lack of multifaceted portrayals of people like me in the media and television, and it has severely damaged my self-perception. Because of this experience and, in contrast, the positive encounters with people who feel safe and valued in their own space, I want to have a bigger role in activism in my community and am currently working towards having more physical areas for youth expression in Somerville.

My name is Rio and I’m a junior at Somerville High School. I love to share my perspective through classical music, theatre, and creative writing. I have grown up around Spanish theatre and music through my father’s Argentinian heritage. I am excited to help lead the Boston chapter of Periphery and coalesce multicultural students through creative expression.

I’m a junior at Boston Latin Academy. I became interested in this magazine because it seemed like a cool space to mix some of my interests together, art and journalism. I spend a lot of my free time researching topics such as environmental justice, politics, and theory. I also spend my time painting and listening to all sorts of music because I am absolutely obsessed.

I’m a sophomore at Boston Latin Academy. I’ve always been interested in all forms of art from pencil drawing to playing piano to dancing. When I’m not drawing I’m probably busy cheerleading or training on aerial silks, hoop, or trapeze (circus arts). Growing up in a mixed household with a white mother and immigrant father I’ve learned how different cultures, languages, and art forms are things to celebrate, not shy away from.
